How Do You Define “Adult Contemporary”? Casey Spooner Weighs In On His First Solo Album
Casey Spooner didn’t set out to make a solo album. In fact, he despises solo albums. If it weren’t for some artful deception on the part of producer Jeff Saltzman, Adult Contemporary might never have come to be. Fisherspooner‘s avant-garde frontman stopped by Street Date last week to explain how some low-key studio sessions turned into this ambitious, enjoyable first solo effort.
“
This is not for the Fisherspooner fan.
”
Casey Spooner
Despite what he says, this album IS for the Fisherspooner, as much as it was also made for the rest of the world. Fans who have followed Spooner’s rise from underground performance artist to indie music darling will surely find something to love on Adult Contemporary. The album is a departure though, and that’s what Spooner is focused on when he says this album wasn’t made for fans of the mother band. Listen in to Part I of our interview, as Casey Spooner describes how the Adult Contemporary project came to be.
Part I
“
I never planned to be in show business
”
Spooner takes us through the early days of Fisherspooner in this next clip, detailing the downtown performance art scene that he and Warren Fisher were born out of in the mid- to late-90s. How did Spooner get from those early days of the avant-garde, to his current campaign to replace Regis Philbin on the Live With Regis and Kelly show? Click play to find out.
