We wanted this record to be a source of empowerment for those that are struggling.
This week, Red – one of the premier names in hard rock today – are releasing third highly anticipated follow up to 2009′s smash hit Innocence and Instinct. The new album, titled Until We Have Faces does not disappoint, delivering more of the hard hitting songs and insightful lyrics that the band has become known for.

Recently Red sat down for an interview with CBS to discuss their new album:

You’ve been nominated for two GRAMMY awards – what does that feel like? Have you ever attended the awards ceremony?

It feels amazing. We don’t set out to win awards for our work, but to be recognized for your efforts as a professional is always received as an honor. Both times we have attended the event and it is something that we will never forget.

You have played 1000′s of shows all over the world – do you have any favorite cities/countries to play in? Do you have any cool stories from playing overseas?

We all have our favorites. I would say some of my favorites would have to be Dallas, Minneapolis, and pretty much anywhere in California. We have also had the chance to play in Germany and New Zealand. They were both amazing. New Zealand stands out to me because it was the first time we had ever played there and we headlined the Parachute Festival. It was also neat to see thousands of “kiwi’s” singing our songs.

How did you come up with the title for the new album, and what is the significance?

We all have our favorite authors. Sometimes we look for inspiration through the written word. C.S. Lewis has a book called Till’ We Have Faces.

There was a passage in this book that we drew from that reads: No human being could ever receive messages from the divine until they know who they truly are. We see this a lot with our fans. So many of them are in search of what it is that they are here for. The search for ones identity is a long and sometimes difficult road.

We wanted this record to be a source of empowerment for those that are struggling. Generally in our experience, people turn to music when times are hard and this record was made as a soundtrack for those individuals who are on a path to finding themselves.

Of bands/artists who are active today, who are some of your favorites and why?

Seether and Papa Roach. Each group are great guys both personally and musically. We have also learned a lot from touring with them and seeing how they perform as well as having time to hang out and talk about what it is that we are all doing a musicians with our bodies of work.

RED fans are known for their dedication, and they’re very active online. What’s your take on using Facebook/Twitter to interact with fans, and has anything weird ever happened between you and fans online?

It’s an invaluable source of information on any band that is willing to put themselves out there. We believe in reaching out to our fans. Sometimes a band like us is the only chance that someone will have to reach out for help or advice.

Making ourselves available to them has created a relationship that we consider to be the backbone of what it is we are doing as a group of guys that make music for a living. Music with a purpose. When that inspiration comes from listening to a RED record, that doesn’t mean that it won’t raise questions. So, we make a daily effort to communicate with our loyal fans.
