Be Warned – Does It Offend You, Yeah?’s New Album Rocks

Does It Offend You, Yeah? burst onto the London music scene in 2008 with their debut album You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Into. Their energetic blend of electronic and dance music, as well as their explosive live show, quickly won them a legion of fans from all parts of the globe. After three years of staying under the radar they have finally released a follow up album, titled (in their signature mouthful style) Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You. Suffice to say, you’ve been warned – Does It Offend You, Yeah?‘s new album rocks.
On the first track, “We Are the Dead,” Does It Offend You, Yeah? toy with their listners a bit by opening with a mellow acoustic verse. This, however, as fans would hope, soon gives way to their signature grime-y electro banger.
On a couple of tracks- “Pull Out My Insides” and “The Knife” the band delves into more traditional rock territory. Given the edgy sound they established themselves upon, these songs fare surprisingly well and give you a bit of breather from the heavier stuff.
Album highlight “The Wrestler” starts off with a quote by real life wrestling manager Paul Heyman from the movie “Beyond the Mat” and then blasts into an attack of distorted bass lines and squelching synths. This segues neatly into “Wondering,” which is the only track on the album to feature rapping. Guest vocalist Trip delivers a searing performance that stays right up with the manic instrumentals.
Does It Offend You, Yeah? do a good job of mixing things up on Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You. While their intense electro breakdowns are fun, an entire album of them might get a bit heavy. By throwing in a bit of variety Does It Offend You, Yeah? keeps things fresh and so when the choruses on the dance tracks hit, they really hit home.
