Like Air Or Radiohead? Try Young Brother’s “Vaccine”

Younger Brother "Vaccine" (Twisted Music)
A popular psychedelic-trance force to be reckoned with in the early rave days, Simon Posford (Shpongle & Hallucinogen) and Benji Vaughan (Prometheus) always had a way with dancefloors under their various dance monikers. Now both have reinvented themselves into electronic artists outside the realm of trance, and it’s a happy move. Their new stuff is gorgeous and delicate but headstrong and purposeful — kind of like Air with the ebb-and-flow of a Radiohead-lite composition that breathes new life into the electronic-dance genre.
But unlike most music in that realm, Young Brother’s music even seems to smile whimsically upon its listener from time to time — and it’s the buildups that really make their sound pop. Songs like “Shine” (available as a free MP3 below) flirts with the line between soft electronica and the sunnier side of downtempo. It’s some sensitive, earth-loving stuff — if Lilith Fair was still around, they’d be having a busy summer.
Other songs like “Crystalline,” “Night Lead Me Astray” and “Safety In Numbers” sounds a little like music you’d make if you spent a lot of time listening to Coldplay, Radiohead and Air while songs like “Sys 700″ and “Tetris” are coated with a pleasant barrage of moonlit synthscapes, dreamy guitars and soothing vocals evoking the mesmerizing charm as heard on their debut, A Flock of Seagulls.
“Vaccine” is slated for release on April 26th and will be out on SCI Fidelity. Until then download a free MP3 of “Shine” below.
