Wormburner Capture That New York Sound On “Placed by the Gideons,” Perform Live At Street Date

“
The New York sound is alive and well thanks to Wormburner.

The west coast is gearing up for a rare visit from one of New York’s finest indie-rock outfits, Wormburner. As their new album Placed by the Gideons begins to pick up steam at radio stations around the country, including Seattle’s venerable KEXP and New York’s WFUV, the guys paid a visit to Street Date‘s NYC studios for an exclusive performance and interview. The “New York sound” is alive and well thanks to Wormburner – click through now to hear their songs “Peekskill,” “Pike City Proper” and “Breaker, Breaker.”
Formed in 2006 among the underground rock scenes of Brooklyn and Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Wormburner is fronted by Steve “Hank” Henry, as dynamic a rock frontman as you’re likely to find. Intricate storytelling and insightful lyrics mark the themes of Henry’s songs, which are expertly accompanied by the band: Paul McDaniel on guitar; Alec Senese on drums & bass; Jim Spengler on bass & drums; Terry Solomone on keys, guitar and other sounds.
For their Street Date session, longtime band cohort Miguel Besa sat in for Spengler on percussion. What follows are three of their latest tunes, arranged specifically for this studio performance. Each of these songs can be found on their excellent new release, Placed by the Gideons (iTunes). Hit play below to watch “Breaker Breaker,” “Pike City Proper,” and “Peekskill.”

Henry, on Placed by the Gideons
Completing Placed by the Gideons represented a major accomplishment for the band, and is their second full-length album. In our interview, Wormburner revealed the story behind the album’s conception, born of late-night sessions New York apartments and completed in a dusty warehouse in Hoboken, New Jersey. Listen in as Henry and the band share stories about how the band came together, and what it feels like hearing their songs on the radio for the first time.
