A Ride Of Realism From Crossfade In ‘We All Bleed’
It’s been perhaps a difficult journey for the rock/grunge group Crossfade. With having maintained the band’s Ed Sloan on vocals and guitars and Mitch James on bass, the group has had a rather revolving door when it comes to drummers as well as backup guitarists. They were also dropped from Columbia records after their third album; they do, however seem to return in a rather bold but reflective way with their new release.
All this week stream We All Bleed at AOL.
After a lengthy hiatus, Crossfade returns with their third album, We All Bleed and immediately offers a a fast paced rhythm by way of the opening track, “Dead Memories”. Sloan begins sounding muffled, then clears his voice to bring a clear and concise revelation…a technique that is perhaps symbolic of their musical journey.
Track number two, titled, “Killing Me Inside”, offers a rather dark and desolate mood with an exaggerated chorus and more drawn out bridge.
While the album is somewhat desolate in tone, We All Bleed does showcase some of the talent from the band; they seem to experience with a range of musical styles and techniques. For example, the usage of computer, signature guitar rifts and faster rhythms show that the band does indeed thrive when variety is mixed into the music.
For Crossfade, perhaps the lessons they have learned from musical hardship are indeed about learning how to abandon what they previously held onto, and make room for variety. It seems to be a lesson they are embracing and attempting to market from.
