Brad Barr and Andrew Barr would no doubt be making beautiful music apart from each other, had they happened to go their separate ways in life, as brothers often do. But luckily the pair has stuck together over the years and their combined musical prowess has been the basis for some incredible music-making. What began in their first band, the progressive improv-rock outfit The Slip, has morphed into their new incarnation The Barr Brothers. The pair visited our studio recently to play songs off their new LP, aptly titled The Barr Brothers.

“Beggar In The Morning”

Beggar In The Morning” is the first single off this self-titled LP and it’s the perfect showcase for the Barr Brothers sound. The brothers are accompanied by the amazing Sara Page, who works the bow and xylophone in this arrangement but more often plays the harp, and the multi-talented Andres Vial on the organ. That’s Brad Barr sitting up front on the guitar and lead vocals; Andrew Barr is behind the drum kit and is seen in the beginning of this video playing a custom percussion piece known as the “waterfall.”

“Old Mythologies”

If you don't line them up, I have to knock them down

There’s a great element of storytelling in the songs on The Barr Brothers and nowhere is that more evident than on the above tune, “Old Mythologies.” For this one Brad grabs the harmonica and Sara the guitar, while Andrew focuses on handclaps and backup vocals, and Andres jumps behind the drum kit. Such is the talent and versatility of this group, attributes which serve them well in the live setting.

“Let There Be Horses”
