Her U.S. tour is selling out rapidly and, according to Hathaway, her singing has never been better. “I’m at the top of my game vocally,” she says in our exclusive interview. ” Lalah Hathaway Lalah Hathaway has established herself as a unique and well-respected artist, outgrowing the long shadow of her father’s famed career – no easy task for the daughter of a soul legend. Her approach to songwriting and producing is very much that of an independent artist, and she works on her own schedule without interference from her record label. Recording Donny Hathaway‘s hit song “You Were Meant For Me” and including it on Where It All Begins was her own decision, and it made the record only because, for Lalah, “it felt right.” Though she respects the posthumous duet Natalie Cole recorded with father Nat King Cole, don’t look for any such duets in Lalah’s immediate future.
