Donald Glover Is “Childish Gambino” – Watch Him Perform Songs From “Camp” – Live at Street Date

“
I'm a big proponent of youth. As you get older you start to be more jaded about stuff.

Donald Glover, as Childish Gambino
This, ladies and gentlemen, is Camp, and it’s the hottest rap album of the year. It may be the hottest rap debut this century. It comes not from a junior member of some famous rap crew, not from the gritty streets of some underloved American city, and not from the lab of some major label. No, Camp comes from the mind of actor & comedian Donald Glover. “Another actor-turned-rapper?” you might say, but trust us this one is for real. As Childish Gambino, Glover brings an indie rock sensibility to the rap game, reinventing the “brag tracK” (on “Bonfire”) and including everyone in one massive inside joke.

I ain't Mumford, I ain't trying to have sons.

Childish Gambino, on 'All The Shine'
Childish Gambino Performs –…At least two songs from Camp are destined for radio greatness, and Childish Gambino performed them both during this session. Both feature Gambino singing the chorus, in addition to rapping the verses, showing off another side of this artist’s musical abilities. “Heartbeat” uses the drum beat and bassline to mimic the sound of that organ and establish a cadence that remains steady throughout the song. “All The Shine” shows Gambino’s sensitive side while explaining why, compared to other rappers, he comes out on top.
“I don’t know what I’m doing. I don’t know where I am,” says Glover of his schedule these days, which now includes shooting his NBC prime time comedy Community, prepping for his second hour-long cable TV comedy special (the first airs this month on Comedy Central), and hitting the road for the Childish Gambino tour.
