M83. Mastermind Anthony Gonzalez Discusses Groups New Double Album In Exclusive Interview

“
What we wanted to do was to have this massive wall of sound; something like, almost painful to hear and to listen to. You know, something that really burns your face off...
”
Anthony Gonzalez
The vast amount of positive critical reception from far and wide that followed the release of M83.‘s new record, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming couldn’t have been predicted by anyone. The new albums success has even pleasantly surprised M83. creator Anthony Gonzalez, who says he “didn’t expect” the most recent studio effort to be greeted with such a large amount of success so quickly – but he’s certainly grateful for it.
Gonzalez recently stopped by Streetdate’s studio for an exclusive interview to talk about M83.‘s new record, which is mainly about dreams, how every one is different, and how you dream different as you progress from a kid to a teenager, and finally to an adult.
In the interview, Gonzalez touched on many points including the tons of small steps involved in the making of M83.‘s new record. The long road to the completion of Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming began with its humble conception in Gonzalez own living room which would ultimately culminate months later into the final steps and finishing touches being put on at Hollywood’s legendary recording studio, Sunset Sound Factory.

The success of the album is certainly a credit to the stellar production by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, best known for his work on bass with Beck. The idea behind the record that drove the recording process was to really take a lot of time discussing production with Meldal-Johnsen in an effort to masterfully craft a sound that really gave justice to the way Gonzalez imagined the songs in his head. No matter how much time it took, Gonzalez was determined to spend as much time as needed to tweak and perfect even the simplest sounds.
