GRAMMY Nominees Perform: Shaggy Picks Up Nod For Best Reggae Album “Summer In Kingston”
The nominations for Best Reggae Album at the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards are in, and while it will be hard to out-cred two Marleys (both Ziggy and Stephen are nominated), our vote goes out to none other than Shaggy. It’s hard to forget his first smash hits, “It Wasn’t Me” and “Angel,” but his latest album Summer In Kingston returned to his Jamaican sound-system roots without sacrificing his pop sensibilities. Watch him perform last summer’s most addictive hit “Sugarcane.”
After a few years out of the Top 40 spotlight in the U.S., Shaggy came roaring back in 2011 with a back-to-his-roots album titled Summer In Kingston. While his lead single “Sugarcane” became a radio hit, the album joined the list on nominees for Best Reggae Album.
