For their sophomore album, U.K.’s Band of Skulls not only learned from their mistakes, they embraced them and put them on the album. Say what? According to members of the power-rock trio, their trip to the Bonnaroo festival last summer was a game-changer. They used their festival set to road-test some of the new songs, and were blown away by the results. The “mistakes and mishaps” that would normally be cut out of a studio session gave the songs a certain character, and the band decided to recreate the festival environment when recording the album. The result is an album with rougher edges and a more “real” sound.
